Subject: No recession in Mayor’s office
I am outraged hearing about huge retroactively paid raises to Mayor Carlos Alvarez’ inner circle staff. An example of “more for the princes and less for the common folk” is the 9% raise handed to his assistant who just schedules his meetings…she was raised to $105,000 per year. Another example of largesse with taxpayer’s money (our money) is the 34% raise given the Mayor’s media person who was just raised to $125,000 from $81,000 when she came to this golden throne just 8 months ago. We hear cries from the Mayor’s office about a fiscal crisis evidenced by the total elimination of the domestic violence unit, paycuts for the Fire Department, at the very time more people need help during critical times. This is symptomatic of bureacrats who deal themselves more money at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve. Another example of this bureacratic cancer is Palmetto Bay’s proposed budget which calls for hiring more people; including an entire new human resources department with its own director. It’s time we put municipal upper managements into the chemo lab to cleanse out a cancer that’s been growing while people continue losing their jobs, homes, and face massive losses in their home values, which for many may be the only investment they have. What to do? At the next election, let’s all vote for only new people who are known to act fiscally responsibly.
